FM23 Challenge Idea – The Fallen

Welcome to my second post where I suggest some interesting and different saves which you could try on the latest incarnation of Football Manager. In the previous post I took you through 5 different challenges but in this post I am going to concentrate on 1 challenge which I thought up whilst bored on a nightshift at work.

Since the birth of the Premier League in 1992 there have been 50 clubs grace England top tier. Clearly there are 20 that play in the Premier League for the 2022/23 season but where are the other 30?

  • Championship – 19
  • League One – 7
  • League Two – 3
  • National League – 1

For this challenge you will need to take charge of 1 of the 11 clubs that are in League One, League Two or the National League that previously played the Premier League.

The aims of the save will be:

  • Guide the club back to the Premier League
  • Beat the clubs highest Premier League finish
  • Beat the longest number of consecutive seasons your club has stayed in the Premier League
  • Win FA Cup
  • Win League Cup
  • Win Premier League

The clubs you have to choose from are:

Barnsley
  • Current Division – League One
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 19th
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 1

Bolton Wanderers
  • Current Division – League One
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 6th
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 11

Charlton Athletic
  • Current Division – League One
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 7th
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 7

Derby County
  • Current Division – League One
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 8th
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 6

Ipswich Town
  • Current Division – League One
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 5th
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 3

Portsmouth
  • Current Division – League One
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 8th
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 7

Sheffield Wednesday
  • Current Division – League One
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 7th
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 8

Swindon Town
  • Current Division – League Two
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 22nd (bottom)
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 1

AFC Wimbledon
  • Current Division – League Two
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 6th
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 8

Bradford City
  • Current Division – League Two
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 17th
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 2

Oldham Athletic
  • Current Division – National League
  • Highest Premier League Finish – 19th
  • Most Consecutive Season in PL – 2

Who will you start with? Clearly there are some tough ones to do. Beating Ipswich’s highest finish of 5th will be incredibly difficult as will guiding Oldham from the 5th tier of English football.

Does this challenge interest you? Will you give it a go for FM23? If you do then please let me know how you get on.
